Mandatory operations configuration

1: Fare type setup

Creating a Fare Type is one of the first things you would like to do.

Fare types would be used to charge different amounts depending on your customer. You would require to set up a base fare from which all other fares (if you were to have more) would calculate an adjustment from.

For example depending on your product or clientele you could have fare types such as:

  • Adult ($10.00 which would be your base fare. Price of the ticket.)
  • Child (which would calculate an adjustment based on your adult base fare. You could decide to charge only $1.00 per child. In which case it would override your Adult fare and charge $1.00 per child.)
  • Senior (which would calculate an adjustment based on your adult base fare. You could decide to charge 50% of the adult rate. $5.00.)
  • Complimentary (which could be used to offer a free trip and would calculate an adjustment of 100% to your base fare. You can hide this fare from websales and leave it only avaiable to your staff in backoffice.)

Above fare names are just an example. You could name your fares whichever name is more relevant to your operation. Ideally fare type names should be self explanatory.

2: Station setup

Now as your environment is beginning to take shape, the next step would be to begin configuring routes and schedules.

By definition, a route in Betterez is any grouping of stations flowing in the same direction.

Before we can begin to configure routes and schedules, it is absolutly necessary to create all of the stations (or stops) that will form part of your routes and schedules.

To create a station, click on the following link to our documentation on Stations and Locations

3: Route Setup

Once all of your stations have been configured, you can proceed to create your routes. Once again, in the Betterez application, a route refers to any collection of stations that flows in the same direction. It is important to highlight the "...same direction" part because that means, if you want to sell a round trip for route A-B-C-D-E-F, you will also have to create a route to allow for the opposite direction, or, a route for F-E-D-C-B-A.

You can't create a round trip A-B-C-D-E-D-C-B-A since that wont be "in the same direction". This route would be reversing itself after station E. As above mentioned you need to create both routes (going one direction and its return route) independently.

To create a route, click on the following link to our documentation on Creating a Route

Once you have a route, follow the next article to create a schedule.

4: Schedule Setup

A Schedule is the itinerary that you will set up to go from Origin to Destination of your route, going through all your desired stations. You would need to set up, arrival and departure times for each station, capacity of the bus, validity of this schedule among other configurations.

Once this is done you would have finished your basic Operations set up.
