Journey Pricing: Create and Update rules

To create and/or update rules of journey pricing, you have two different ways of doing it:

  • CSV Upload
  • Via the UI (not uploading the csv file)

navigate to admin>pricing>journey pricing.

pricing admin menu

Once here, you can filter by different rules to find existing prices to update or you can leave it all empty and click on the apply filters which will bring your current rules (if any) and will also show you the following options.

Create and Update rules via CSV Upload

Creating new pricing rules

Go to the "Bulk upload" button.

You can download the template to upload your data and bulk create, update or delete as many journey prices as you need.

You can also display the instructions that describe all the fields of the template:

Updating existing journey pricing rules

You can download the records you desire to Update by using the Download green button from the list.

download button

You will have a new CSV file with the rules already in your system and the filters applied when downloading the list.

This new file will include an ID field (the first field in the list).

You can simply edit the rules by changing any of the values in any of the columns.

Be careful when editing values, especially IDs. If using the Find and Replace tools, make sure you select the right columns or sections.

Once changed, you can save the file and upload it using the bulk upload tool found in Journey pricing.

There is no need to include every column in the update file, only the ID + the column you wish to update. We recommend erasing the "Created by" and "Updated by" columns in the file you will upload since those are automatically filled by the system.

If you load records with no ID, the system will check if the information matches with the existing records. If it is a 100% match, it will give an error “records were not created because duplicate records already exist in the system”. If the information is different (for example price, even by a cent), it will create a new rule which will be the one to apply, since it was the last one created out of the two (previous one and new one with 0.01 cents more).

Remember that you can also include new records in this CSV file. Leave the ID column empty, and this will create a new JP record with the info contained in that row.

Journey price version id

Every Journey Pricing rule will have an accompanying Journey price version id.

The version ID is different from the actual JP ID. A ner version ID is generated when an existing JP record is updated using the CSV file.

There are a few different locations in which one can find the Journey price version id.

  • Ticket details page
  • Tickets report
File processing times

The CSV file used for creating, updating, or deleting rules will be processed asynchronously, and prices will not be available instantly in the system.

You will receive an email to the email address of your profile once the file has been processed.

REQUIRED OPTIONS Click on the green plus button

JP add or modify

Select origin and destination stations that this rule applies to.

Enter the base price that will be assigned to all trips matching rule's parameters.

JP add or modify

PRICE AND LOYALTY POINTS You can set the regular price that would usually be offered for this journey, if dynamic pricing rules were not being used. This data is for reporting purposes and has no effect on the pricing system.

Enter the open return price if the trip is purchased with ticket type 'openReturn' and you want the price will be assigned instead of the main 'price' field.

Enter the type of price adjustment that should be applied to the journey when a passenger purchases a Round Trip. If the trip departs and returns on the same day you should set the Same day option. Possible values are: % (adjust the base price of the journey by a percentage), $ (adjust the base price of the journey by a dollar amount), override (change the base price of the journey).

JP add or modify

LOCATIONS AND CHANNELS Enter the shift zones and the sales channels that are targeted by this rule.

JP add or modify

PRODUCT PROPERTIES You could enter the product, the fare classes or the fare types that are targeted by this rule.

JP add or modify

TRIP PROPERTIES If you choose 'Include some' option you could enter one or more schedules to apply to the rule. If the connector is 'Or', this rule targets trips that are composed by at least one schedule in this list. If it's 'And' the rule only targets trips that include all schedules in this list. You could 'Exclude some' schedules so the rule will never apply to trips composed by at least one of these schedules.

You can also enter all the amenity groups or brands that are targeted by this rule.

JP add or modify

DATE RANGES Enter the days of the week in which this journey pricing rule is available.

If you set and Advance purchase time inverval (in hours), this Journey Pricing Rule will only target purchases that are made at least ADVANCE PURCHASE FROM hours and at most ADVANCE PURCHASE TO hours in advance of the trip departure date.

You can also set a Sell time inverval so this rule will only target purchases that are made sometime between the SELL START DATE (starting on that day at the time specified) and SELL END DATE (ending on that day at that specifc time), or you can set a Trip interval so it will only target trips that depart sometime between the TRIP START DATE and TRIP END DATE.

If you want to create a daily rule to apply every day for a period of time, you would need to set a rule for every day. It will apply only for that one day. You can set this for a month (ex: 30 rules, one of each day of the month for sales within 01:00am to 05:00am) and you can update them for the following month at the end of their period of validity.

JP add or modify

CAPACITY Enter the maximum number of tickets in a single manifest that may be sold with this Journey Pricing Rule, so you can limit how many passengers travelling on the same trip can purchase their ticket at this price.

You can also set a Load factor range so this rule will only target purchases where the highest load factor of all vehicles on all legs of the journey is greater or equal to LOAD FACTOR FROM and less than LOAD FACTOR TO at the time that the trip search is performed.

JP add or modify

CUSTOM FIELDS If IS BASE is true, this rule defines the base price for travel between this origin and destination. Otherwise, leave this field empty or enter 'no'. This data is for reporting purposes and has no effect on the pricing system.

External fields are three free text fields. These fields are used for rule tagging or grouping and have no effect on the pricing system.

JP add or modify

You can click then save and the new rule is set.
